The novel Kobra is about the time when the Soviet Union fell apart and what happened afterwards. From this “Evil Empire” fifteen new, independent states arose. What happens within the mostly closed borders can only be said by those who live in these countries and bear a hellish burden on a daily basis. The post-soviet states are today governed by some kind of Mr. Comrade President, who embodies the statistical average of a Soviet leader and party functionary. A person whose umbilical cord has been cut by the Supreme Communist Party School.
Contrary to expectations, this type of leader has not disappeared under the new conditions. He has not been relegated to the backyards of history: on the contrary, he changes shape, adapts, develops and spreads beyond the boundaries of his territory. With him he has his “new” ideas about how the world should be rebuilt and how we should live our lives.
